We decided to raise chickens. Not for meat, for eggs.
This has been a really fun adventure!
I brought home 4 itty bitty chicks on May 5th – Easter Eggers – Unfortunatly, one of the dogs killed one on May 20th. I (Susan) promptly went out and bought three more chicks for our flock. Chickens are social creatures, and three didn’t seem enough to keep themselves happy and satisfied. Six isn’t a handful, but they are fun to take care of.
We now have Hershey, Henrietta, Arroze Con Pollo (aka “Rose”), Missus Mable Cotton Bottoms, Ginger and Ginger. Ginger and Ginger are both Rhode Island Reds, and Missus Mable Cotton Bottoms is a Barred Plymouth Rock.
Rob has been working away on a stylish coop for their home, and the not-so-fun chicken run. We can’t wait to have them outdoors, especially me, because I can have my craft room back!
